Cataloging Blu-ray videorecordings
For the CCS catalog, Blu-ray discs are cataloged the same as DVDs, with the following exceptions:
- Date1
- All Blu-ray discs must have a Date1 field that is 2006 or later. This is because 2006 is when the first Blu-ray discs were released.
- 007
- Code 007 ‡e as
s
- Example:
007 vd csaizk
- GMD (245 ‡h)
- In AACR2 records, qualify the GMD with "(Blu-ray)". Note: If RDA's equivalent fields are present, this qualifier may be omitted.
- Example:
245 ... ‡h[videorecording (Blu-ray)] ...
- When a GMD qualifier is present in records with non-Latin text in 880 fields, be sure to qualify the GMD in the corresponding 880 field.
- Edition (250)
- Follow the CCS guidelines for videorecording edition statements. Do not include an edition statement of "Blu-ray" or "Blu-ray disc". However, for a Blu-ray from a combo pack cataloged separately, add an edition statement of "[Blu-ray-only version]."
- Examples:
250 25th anniversary edition. 250 Diamond edition, [Blu-ray-only version].
- Physical description (300)
- Use either "Blu-ray disc" or "videodisc" for the extent.
300 1 Blu-ray disc :‡bsd., col. ;‡c4 3/4 in. or 300 1 videodisc :‡bsd., col. ;‡c4 3/4 in.
- Projection characteristics (345)
- Example:
345 3D‡2rda
- Digital characteristics (347)
- In both AACR2 and RDA records, include a 347 field.
- Example:
347 video file‡bBlu-ray‡eregion A‡2rda
- System details note (538)
- Specify "Blu-ray" instead of "DVD" in a system details note.
- Form/Genre heading (655)
- Include all applicable LCGFT form/genre headings for the content & format of the videorecording.
655 _7 3-D films.‡2lcgft 655 _7 Feature films.‡2lcgft 655 _7 Fiction films.‡2lcgft 655 _7 Video recordings for the hearing impaired.‡2lcgft 655 _7 Video recordings for people with visual disabilities.‡2lcgft
Region codes
Blu-ray regions are different from DVD regions. Instead of numbered regions, Blu-ray regions are referred to by letters. However, some discs (especially discs from 2006 and early 2007), may use region numbers rather than letters.
Some Blu-ray discs may have a lot more technical requirements than most DVDs.
Example:
538 Blu-ray, region A; 2.35:1 widescreen presentation, 1080p high definition, AVC 24 Mbps; DTS HD5.1 master lossless audio, 5.1 Dolby Digital.
Notes fields and call number analytics
Blu-ray discs sold with accompanying DVDs, DVD/Digital copy combo discs, or Digital copies may require contents notes locally to accommodate the subfield z combinations and facilitate holds in the online catalog. See the Multivolume call numbers page for more information on formatting the contents note and call number analytics.
Blu-ray discs cataloged with accompanying DVDs, DVD/Digital copy combo discs, or Digital copies also require:
500 Accompanying material may vary.
Blu-ray + DVD combo packs
See Blu-ray + DVD combo packs for additional details on how to handle cases where the publisher packages a Blu-ray version and a DVD version of the same movie in a single set (or on a single disc).
