There are four '''Illinois children's book awards''' whose winners are selected by children who read the nominees and vote for their favorite. The Public Access Services committee requested that the codes be removed from records for the previous nominees and added to records for the new nominees starting as close to April 1 as possible, as the new lists for all of the awards should always have been released by that point, and this allows them to plan the rotating of their displays to match the change in the public catalog.  This work should be completed within two weeks of April 1.

The codes are removed from records centrally, in an automated manner, but catalogers must add the codes to records for new nominees manually after the mass removal is complete.  All records for physical books, audiobooks, and Playaways should be tagged in this way.  E-books and e-audiobooks should not be included (because they are shadowed from Enterprise), nor should videorecordings or Playaway Views.

There are four Illinois children's book awards whose winners are selected by children who read the nominees and vote for their favorite. Voting is conducted each February, and winners are announced sometime in March. The new lists of nominees are typically issued sometime in February or March, usually before the winners are announced.

The awards, with links to current & past nominees, are:

  • Monarch Award (grades K-3)
    • Bulletin list code: MONARCHNOM
    • Search in WorkFlows: ^B90
  • Bluestem Award (grades 3-5)
    • Bulletin list code: BLUESTMNOM
    • Search in WorkFlows: ^B107
  • Rebecca Caudill Award (grades 4-8)
    • Bulletin list code: CAUDILLNOM
    • Search in WorkFlows: ^B89
  • Abraham Lincoln Award (grades 9-12)
    • Bulletin list code: LINCOLNNOM
    • Search in WorkFlows: ^B108

It is common for Illinois public libraries to highlight the current nominees list of one or more of these awards. Several of our libraries do this by entering the relevant Symphony Bulletin list code(s) in a 598 field, and then using that code in Enterprise to display the current nominees. The Public Access Services committee requested that the codes be removed from records for the previous nominees and added to records for the new nominees starting as close to April 1 as possible, as the new lists for all of the awards should always have been released by then, and this allows them to plan the rotating of their displays to match the change in the public catalog.
