Guidelines for Literary Form in Polaris
The Literary Form facet in PowerPAC is populated by the Literary Form fixed field in a bibliographic record. The Database Management Committee reviewed recommendations from both the PAS and Technical Services Advisory groups.[1]
- For print materials only, libraries will assign at minimum a literary form of either 0 (Not fiction) or 1 (Fiction).
- Libraries can use more specific values (Short Stories, Poetry, etc.) if desired.
- It is recommended that novels should be coded as 1 (Fiction) instead of f (Novels).
