Playaways are generally cataloged as audiobooks, with the following exceptions.
Chief source of information
Use the player's label as the chief source of information. If there isn't a label, prefer the most comprehensive title for the set, which will usually be on the container. Use AACR2R 6.0B2 to determine the prescribed sources of information for each area of the description.

Variable fields
006 m^^^^jq^^h^^^^^^^^ (You may use a different target audience code[5] as appropriate, such as a space for adult material.)
- Physical description fixed fields (007)
- Add one 007 field for the sound recording aspects, and another for the electronic resource aspects.[3][4]
- If editing in WorkFlows:
007 sz*zunznn|||ed (For the sound recording aspects) 007 cz*nza|||||||| (For the electronic resource aspects)

- General material designation (245 ‡h)
- When following AACR2 rules, use

- Place of publication and publisher (260/264 ‡a and ‡b)
- Code only for the creator of the device itself--Findaway World.

- or
264 _1 Solon, OH :‡bFindaway World,‡c[2011]
264 _4 ‡c℗2011- For titles that were previously released as audiobooks, code the original publisher in a general (500) note.

- (Think of this situation like a CD release of a recording originally issued on LP or cassette by a different company.)
- Date of publication (260/264 ‡c)
- Use the most recent date found anywhere on the player or container. If there are two copyright dates, use only the most recent.
- As Playaways were first commercially available in the second half of 2005, the publication/distribution date entered in the catalog record for the Playaway (i.e., Date1 in the fixed field and the first date listed in the 260 ‡c (AACR2) or 264 _1 ‡c (RDA)) may NOT be dated earlier than 2005.
- If the recording has been previously released, such as in a different format, the original publication/distribution date of the sound recording should be noted in the 008 fixed field (Date2) and in a 500 general note. As with other audiobooks, the dates of any print publication may be ignored. Note that the original publication/distribution date may be different from the original copyright date!
- As with other sound recordings, if there is a phonogram copyright date on the item (e.g. p2002), include that in the 260 ‡c when cataloging according to AACR2 rules or 264 _4 ‡c when cataloging according to RDA rules.
- Physical description (300)

- For the 300 ‡e, describe the accompanying pieces that come in the package, rather than the accompanying pieces that you circulate. Some Playaway packages may not include the same accompanying pieces as are indicated in the above example--some may contain more pieces, others may contain fewer.
- When cataloging according to RDA, please use "1 audio media player" instead of "1 sound media player."
