CCS libraries optionally may include awards information in the 586 field. This note provides information about an award that is associated with an item. The decision of which awards to cite is up to the discretion of the individual library. The most important awards to include in a bibliographic record fall into two different categories:

The most important awards to include in the bibliographic record fall into two different categories:

  • Book awards
  • Entertainment awards

Only well-known awards are recommended for this field:

Children's material:

Book awards
  • Caldecott Medal
  • Monarch Award
  • Newbery Medal
  • Rebecca Caudill Award
Entertainment awards
  • Academy Award
  • Grammy Award
