Wonderbooks and VOX Books

Wonderbooks and VOX Books are pre-loaded audiobook players that are permanently attached to a hardcover book. A child just needs to press Play in order to listen to the book while reading along. The audiobook players include a headphone jack for independent listening, and a Micro-USB charging port. Wonderbooks include a learning mode that prompts the child to think of answers to questions. Refer to the instructions on children's materials for additional guidance.

Fixed Field

The fixed fields of the OCLC record may be different than the CCS local practice. Please change the Leader, 006, and 007 to match the examples below.

Leader (LDR)

Type of record (position 6) : i - Nonmusical sound recording

Fixed-Length Data Elements - Additional Material Characteristics (006)

Add an 006 field for the book aspects. The codes may be different, such as for the target audience.

If editing in Polaris:

006 aa j 000 1

Physical description fixed field (007)

In order for a Wonderbook or VOX book to be treated as an audiobook, the first position should be an s for sound recording. The codes chosen can vary.

If editing in Polaris:

007 sz zznnnnmpueu

If editing in Connexion:

007 s ‡b z ‡d z ‡e z ‡f n ‡g n ‡h n ‡i n ‡j m ‡k p ‡l u ‡m e ‡n u

Variable Fields

Identifiers for the Manifestation (020/028)

Add the ISBN associated with the Wonderbook or VOX book in a ‡a, but add the ISBN associated with the original print book in ‡z. In addition to the ISBN, record the publisher's number in the 028 field.

020 ‡a9780997075601‡q(VOX)
020 ‡z9780316213608

028 02 ‡a041-C‡bVOX Books

Edition statement (250)

Record [Book + Audio] after the edition statement. If there is no edition statement in the record, add [Book + Audio] to a 250 field. Because a TOM for this format does not exist, including [Book + Audio] in the edition statement clarifies the format of the item.

250 ‡aVOX edition [Book + Audio]

250 ‡a[Book + Audio]
