Authorized access points for musical works

CCS local practice is to follow the AACR2 rules for main entry (1XX) in musical sound recordings, not RDA 19.2.1.1 and MLA best practice. (Decisions made at the August 2015 and April 2016 Catalogers meetings).

AACR2 21.23C1: If a sound recording containing works by different persons or bodies has a collective title, enter it under the heading for the person or body represented as principal performer.

RDA 19.2.1.1 : A performer is a contributor not a creator, and so cannot be a preferred access point (1XX) if that is their only role.

However, disregard AACR2 21.23D1(b). If a sound recording lacks a collective title, enter it under the heading for the principal performer if there is one, first composer if there is not.
