Awards note
The rules on this page have been approved in concept by the SCRAP committee, but the exact wording is still being adjusted. Please use these rules. Please send any feedback to SCRAP. |
CCS libraries optionally may include awards information in the 586 field. This note provides information about an award that is associated with an item. This awards note becomes another access point to the bibliographic record.[1]
The decision of which awards to cite is up to the discretion of the individual library. The most important awards to include in a bibliographic record fall into two different categories:
- Book Awards (Pulitzer Prizes, National Books Awards, Caldecott Medals, and etc.), and
- Entertainment Awards (Academy Awards, Emmy Awards, and etc.)
Only well-known awards are recommended for this field:
Children's material:
|
Adults' material:[1]
|
Libraries are encouraged to add this note when an award winner is announced.
Follow the instructions in Bibliographic Formats and Standards on how to formulate this note.
An award should be specified by its proper name, category of the award, and the year it was received.
To save time and space, only the most important awards under each category should be cited in the bibliographical record. Only cite award winners, and not those that were nominated and did not win.[1]
